Parents Guide to SAE

Dear Parents:

Your son’s decision to join a fraternity often raises concerns about what “really happens” behind closed doors. Let me take a moment to calm any fears you may have about Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

The most important reason your son is in college is to receive his academic degree and succeed. Sigma Alpha Epsilon fully supports students’ success in the classroom and actually requires new members to study base number of hours each week. New members will also recieve mentoring from the forty years of Cal State Northridge alumni who are overseeing the colonization program.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon also offers your child the opportunity to develop their leadership skills to better serve them and their fellow man. The time they spend with SAE will often be their first chance to learn management skills within an organization and make important decisions. SAE also conducts a national Leadership School as well as regional Leadership Schools – the first fraternity to offer these services – to teach and to foster leadership among brothers.

Community service is another strong aspect of the fraternity. A wise person once said, “It is in learning to serve others that we learn to serve ourselves.” SAE contributes to its neighbors by volunteering man-hours, raising donations and awareness, and organizing philanthropic events for a variety of causes.

Finally, Sigma Alpha Epsilon has a ZERO tolerance policy towards hazing. SAE was the first national fraternity to offer a toll-free hazing hotline to report any incidents of hazing to the national office. This toll-free line is anonymous and for members and their parents.
